Homeschool Piano Lessons Your Kids Will Love

Technically no, you can learn the piano with just the keybaord sitting on a table. However, there are some common accessories that come in handy depending on your music setup:

• Keyboard Stand - Adjustable height stand to hold a keyboard or digital piano.
• Bench or Stool - Typically purchased with a stand for students to sit and play. 
• Sustain Pedal - Electric version of the foot-damper pedal found on classical pianos.
• Headphones - Plug into the keybaord to practice and play without bothering others around you

Some other accessories you may want in the future:

• Music Stand - To hold method books or sheet music. Most keyboard come with a built-in stand.
• Dust Cover - Long cloth that cover the top of the keys to protect from dirty and dust
• Piano Bag or Case - Soft or hard keybaord cases keep the instrument protected, especially when traveling or on the go.

Since piano is very accessible, even 3 year olds can start pressing keys and making sounds. We've found that 5 - 6 year olds is the earliest to start with structured piano curriculum as they have sufficient coordination, size of hands / fingers, and attention span to practice and play songs. 

Learning piano, or any instrument for that matter, could be a lifelong endeavor if you want it to be. The learning never stops when you have a passion for music. Here is a quick rule of thumb for students that use our self-paced program (or take live lessons) and practice 2 - 3 time per week:

• 2 - 3 Weeks: Learn note names, basic hand position, play simple right-hand melodies, and play a few chords.
• 1 - 2 Months: Know all the basic major chords and can play both hands together on 5 – 10 simple songs all the way through.
• 2 - 4 Months: Learned basic chord inversions and can play with a steady left-hand accompaniment pattern. Play 20+ songs. Sing and play at the same time.
• 4 - 6 Months: Learned scales and arpeggios, can play more complex melodies, and combine hands independently for more complex rhythms. 
• 6 Months - 1 Year: More complex songs, sight-reading, improvising / soloing over chord progressions, playing with others. Can play hundreds of songs.

After about 4 months, students tend to pick a piano path that most interests them (classical repertoire, pop/contemporary songs, accompanying their own singing, improvisation and soloing, songwriting, or playing with others in a band/ensemble). We identify this journey with students and support them with personalized instruction depending on their musical path.

We currrently support lessons and instruments for guitars, pianos (keyboards & digital pianos), and ukuleles. While we do not offer bass lessons at this time, we're always looking for more ways to expand our instrument and lesson options.

We offer a variety of lesson options to meet your price, convenience, and learning style. Our self-paced lessons are $199/year, our group lessons are $599/student and our private 1:1 lessons are $1.5k/student. Group and 1:1 private lessons each run weekly for 26 weeks.
